For our second week we decided to make ritz cracker chicken. We were scrolling through Pinterest and came across this delicious recipe from https://www.mybakingaddiction.com/ritz-cracker-chicken/. We wanted to try something kind of unique and different so both of us agreed on this recipe. We recognized that chicken can be a very dangerous dish to prepare. What also made it more dangerous was we took a risk to double the recipe since we had one more breast than the recipe called for and our breasts were a lot bigger. Good thing we did because we had just enough to cover all the chicken breasts. We had to make sure that it was cooked at the right temperature unlike last time. So after the dish was prepped and ready to go in the oven we checked to make sure the oven was preheated to the right temperature. Guess what...it wasn't...AGAIN. But this time we were able to catch it in time and learn from our past mistake.

For day one we decided to start off a little bit on the easy side and make a lemon pound cake. We knew we wanted to make a pound cake because we had a special recipe for it and we both enjoy pound cake. We used Shelby's Grandma's recipe that she has had since her childhood. This was our first time baking something completely on our own with no help. Even though this was a very simple recipe compared to other ones we would like to do, it took us a good bit of time to get to the finishing product. As this project goes on we hope to increase our speed and finish what we are making in a less amount of time. One problem we ran into was that we preheated the oven to the wrong degree. This caused the cake to not be done all the way through. When we got it out of the oven after the timer went off, it was a bit burnt on the outside and not completely done on the inside. We tried to cover the cake with tinfoil so the outside wouldn't burn and the inside could get more done. This didn't help at all. The cake ended up splitting in half when we took it out of the bunt pan. We also didn't know a lot of the terminology, for example we didn't know what creaming meant, so then we had to stop midway and research what this meant. The mixer was another problem, we didn't know what buttons to push and what speed to put the mixer at. Overall, everyone really enjoyed our pound cake. We got a variety of good reviews and some constructive criticism. Refer to the feedback tap for other's opinions on our dessert. |
